The Southbank Centre publish another video to promote
their controversial "Festival Wing" plan:
Our responses to this video:
1: The Southbank Centre mostly provide security to make sure the skaters stay in the undercroft and not venture out elsewhere on the site (ask any skater). Furthermore, it is a public site therefore lighting and security are required by law.
2: They claim to help with skateboarding events, yet they totally EXCLUDED the users of the undercroft from this summer's "Festival of Neighbourhood" and the "Lambeth Treasures" exhibition too.
3: The issue at hand is not that the current skaters have been using the undercroft a long time, but that the southbank skating area has 40 years of history and is world renowned in the skating scene. This is why people want to save it.
4: If the site desperately needs to cater for more people, then surely closing half of it down for 3 years is extremely counter productive to their apparent aims.
5: The voice Jude Kelly puts on to impersonate a skateboarder at 2:00 mins is deeply insulting, arrogant and immature.
6: Comparing the iconic southbank skating area to a cloakroom is absolutely ridiculous and just highlights the extreme ignorance and insensitiveness of the Southbank Centre towards this matter.
